Cristmas / New year

Scouts resumes again after the Christmas break on Wednesday the 12th of January 7:30pm to 9:00pm 
 In the meantime a New years day family  Walk  has been organised by South Derbyshire district Scouts, meeting on Saturday January 1st at Ticknall village hall car park at 1:30pm.
 We hop you have a happy Christmas and new year, all the leaders, 1st Melbourne scouts.

Tonight and next week

Tonight its a Christmas theme where the Scouts have been asked to bring something Christmasy to do.
 Next week we are meeting at megazone at willows road sports centre in Derby, see below post for more details, details on how to find will be posted here later.

Forthcoming stuff (?)

This Monday, the 12th of December from 6pm to 8pm ( approx) OAPs meal at the leisure centre, Melbourne.
 if any Scouts are available any help would be greatly appreciated with serving and clearing away, we have been asked to attend in full uniform ( scout shirt/necker/smart trousers )

Scouts this week, Christmas theme - the Scouts have been asked to bring something christasy to do at this weeks Scouts.
Next Weeks Scouts 22nd Decemeber, we are meeting at Derby Megazone, willows road sports centre, from 7pm to 9pm cost £6 please return any outstanding slips and money to Scouts next week ( 15th December ) if your unsure of where it is, i will put some directions on here closer to the date.

This Week

This week we are back in the relative warmth of the Scout hut, normal time, normal place.
Well done to all those who performed well at the Cooking competition despite the fact we were low on numbers in the teams.

Old peoples meal - Leisure Centre.
 We have been asked to help with the old peoples Christmas meal at the Leisure centre in Melbourne on Monday the 13h of December from 6pm to 8pm ( approx) Help from Scouts would be greatly appreciated in serving/table clearing etc on the night - please wear full uniform and smart trousers + shoes if attending.

1st of December (wintery) Walk

on the 1st of December we will be meeting at Ticknall village hall car park at 7pm and walking back to Melbourne, arriving there at roughly at 9pm
 The weather forecast  ( at the time of writing this) is  cold  and Snowy ( with the possibility of a stiff north/north easterly wind ) so its important to make sure that the correct clothing is worn for the weather conditions, we would suggest that the following items are taken/worn:
  •  Warm clothing - its better to wear layers that can be removed as/when required
  • Hat and Gloves
  • Torch
  • Small rucksack
  • Flask with a hot drink
  • some additional clothing.
 The original plan was to split into two groups and to take two separate routes back, however we will alter the route depending upon the weather and general conditions to suit those on the walk.

The following week - 8th of December we will be back in the relative warmth of the Scout hut.

We have a provisional booking for Megazone in Derby on Wednesday the 22nd of December, we will be meeting at Megazone ( willows road sports centre ) in Derby at 7:00pm , more information, ( ie letters) will be going out shortly for this, as places are limited it will be on a first come basis.

Remeberance Sunday,

A quick reminder about Remeberarnce Sunday...

Remembrance Sunday 2010

This years remembrance service and parade takes place on Sunday the 14th of November, and we would like to see as many attend this as possible.

We will be meeting in the Royal British legion car park / Budgens car park at 10:00am on Sunday morning returning back to the car park at around 12:30pm.

Full uniform is required for this ( Scout shirt, neckerchief, Smart trousers - ie school trousers/Scout trousers, shoes - not trainers) and a poppy.

a collection will be taken during the service.

There is also an additional Service for those who would want to attend, at the United Reform Church ( next to Melbourne Leisure Centre ) meeting at 5:45pm, again full uniform for those who want to attend.

This week we are outside, normal place normal time, cooking on fires, outside, suitable clothing and footwear should be worn. Scouts this wednesday and a few other bits

Scouts this Wednesday - We are meeting at Melbourne Recreation Ground (cricket field ) at the top of cockshut lane, usual times 7:30pm to 9:00pm ( finishing at the same place)
suitable clothing and footwear should be worn for the weather conditions, also please bring a torch.
 
South Derbyshire District Scout camping Competition
 
This years camping competition is from the 1st to the 3rd of October ( first weekend in October, Friday evening to Sunday Afternoon) at Calke park
and we are aiming to enter a patrol Team of four to six Scouts.
 
 As a part of the camping competition the Scouts will be planning their own menu for the camp, bringing food for their  patrol to camp, and working to a budget that the Scouts have set amongst themselves. The Scouts will also be
  •  Setting up their own tents, cooking area, and general camp area 
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe camp environment.
  • cooking meals for the patrol team, and clearing away afterwards.
Although this sounds like allot, Leaders will be around to help out if required.
Please let us know if your son/daughter is interested in the above, so we can put a team of four to six Scouts together, thanks.
Also coming up - District Scout cooking competition (Saturday 27th November ) and a practice session for the cooking competition on the 20th November.

Scouts up to Summer 2010

heres a breif outline of what goign on in the last few weeks before we finish for summer:

 Wednesday 30th Of June, Normal meeting
 Wednesday 7th of July Parents meeting for Peak 2010, for those not goign to Peak there will be a climbing wall session at the Scout hut, meeting at 6:30pm and finishing at 8:00pm.
 Depending upon availability there may be letters and information going out  about a possible trip out the next week.

Wednesday the 14th of July, possible trip out. This is the final meeting before we finish for the Summer holidays
Wednesday the  21st of July No Scouts, as we need to sort out stuff for Peak.

Scouts 16th june

On the 16th we are going on a bike ride meeting at 7 and possibly finishing slightly later at 9 30. Bikes should be in a safe condition and helmets must be worn. It may also be useful to bring a puncture repair kit and pump.

Farm Visit

Farm Visit, nr Etwall Monday 14th of June 2010

A visit to a Farm in Etwall has been organised for Monday the 14th of June.
This is a unique opportunity for the Scouts to get a tour round a modern farm looking at some of the machinery, livestock, arable land, as well as some of the wildlife that exists amongst the fields. It may also be possible to achieve some of the requirements of the Scout naturalist badge during the visit.
Parents are welcome to come and join us.

Scouts AGM and next weeks meeting

This Friday its our Group AGM meeting, starting at 7:30pm.

We will be outside ( hopefully ) cooking on fires at next weeks Scout meeting, on the 19th of May, if its wet we will still be cooking on fires outside - please bring a waterproof coat.
Water activity day at Trent lock : Spaces available for this have filled up far faster than expected and unfortunately we can secure any places for this. Refunds will be issued soon.

Mobile phones: Some Scouts are bringing mobile phones with them to meetings, and these are creating a nuisance, please no mobile phones at Scouts.

Air weekend, were provisionaly booked for more flying lessons, letters for this will go out soon, places are limited, if its oversubscribed a combination of leaders discretion and a draw will be used to decide places.

St Georges day

This years St Georges day parade is at Rosliston, on Sunday Afternoon on the 25th of April meeting at The chase ( DE12 8HY ) for 2:15pm. As there is no parking there, we have been advised to park at Strawberry lane ( DE12 8JA ) the prarde should be over by 4:15pm, picking up from the Chase. Full uniform ( Scout shirt / Neckercheif ) and smart ie School or Scout trousers and shoes Should be worn.

Scout meetings April and onwards

  • Wednesday 21st April normal meeting, also final numbers for the water activities day at Trent lock ( rafting canoeing, sailing etc etc)
  • Wednesday 28th April - meeting at Melbourne pool by the church, suitable footwear and clothing should be worn as it could be wet/muddy or very muddy.

also we have a provisional booing for another gliding weekend on Saturday the 16th of October, this consists of a flying lesson+ all the safety briefings on the Saturday, overnight accommodation at the gliding centre and a trip to Imperial war museum Duxford on the Sunday before returning home. Last years cost for this was £65 and we expect this years to be similar. we will be taking names of those interested in going this year, in order to work out numbers ( we can take a maximum of 8 Scouts)

28th - 31st May Spring bank camp
Saturday 12th June - kayaking, canoeing, bell boating, raft building and sailing at Trent lock
Saturday 24th July - Saturday 31st July peak 2010 ( I will be there on the safety team from the Thursday before to the Sunday after )
August Car parking camp at Sugnall ( to be confirmed)
October: Scout Camping competition at Calke park ( limited spaces )
October: Air Experience weekend 3, Gliding at Cambridge on Saturday IWM Duxford on Sunday ( weather permitting)
