District new years day walk

Hope you've all had a good Christmas,
 The annual New years day South Derbyshire District Scouts family walk is on again, this time meeting at Ticknall village hall car park at 1:30pm on new years day.
 Although this is a family walk, certain parts may be unsuitable for pushchairs as it is along footpaths, with styles.
 also can we please have any outstanding stamp and deliver money/stamps returned to us as soon as possible, thanks.

Scouts start back again on the 11th January.

Happy Christmas....

This wednesdays scouts is the final one beofre the Christmas break, Scouts start back again on the first full week of School, which will be the 11th of january.

Air Weekend photos, I have a number of photos from the air weekend earlier this year, when I get the time i will package these onto a DVD, at the moment im busy with the 
Holland presentation video, so the air weekend stuff may take a couple of months to sort out.

Stamp and deliver

By now, the Stamp and deliver stamps and information has gone out, plese can we have all unsold stamps, and money back as soon as possible.
 Stamp and deliver is an anual charity post scheme organised and run by Derby and district Scouts, money raised from it goes towards Scouting in Derbyshire ( distributed amongst local Groups - ie 1st Melbourne) as well as Children first  Derby, and Derbyshire Chidrens Holiday Centre. www.stampanddeliver.com has more information on the scheme in general.

 As ever localy it relies upon volunteers to help deliver the mail in a small area of Melbourne, Kings Newton, Breedon and Ticknall, if you are able to help please get in touch ASAP, either contact me via e-mail, and i will forward the information on, or just ask. next Wednesday (14th ) we are meeting at Derby Megazone, see the post below for more information.

Next few weeks

for the next few weeks we will be meeting as normal at 7:15pm - 9pm.
 In December we have a trip out to Megazone in Derby ( just booked) on the 7th of December, for this we will be meeting at Derby megazone, at willows road sports Centre, more information will follow.
 The following week, the 14th we are back at the scout hut, then its the Christmas holidays.

Scouts walk

we will be walking to  Castle Donnington picking up from the bus stop/bus station or outside the turks head pub ( by the spar  shop on the main road) at approximatly 9pm.
 Suitable clothing and footwear should be  worn ( ie walking boots with ankle protection) and a torch is also recomended.

 We will need some help (lifts) to get the Leaders back from Castle Donnignton to Melbourne, as we will be walking with the Scouts we wont have return transport- thanks.
 The follwoing week, we will be back at the HQ as usual 7:15pm-9pm.

Just a few bits of information...

Next week, were doing an activity with tuna cans. Each Scout will need to bring along an empty tuna can.


THere were come letters that went out at the start of the term period, which contained some of the following:

Time: Scouts runs  between 7:15pm and 9:00pm unless stated otherwise.

For this term ( September to December 2011) we are charging £33.00 please make cheques
payable to 1st Melbourne Scout Troop. Please place the cheque, or cash in a sealed envelope with
the Scouts name written clearly on the front with the title “Autumn Subs” if there are any
outstanding subs from last term, please can

After a wet morning the sun came out and the water activities continued with raft building canoeing and sailing. Most of the scouts are now chilling out after a day on the water, tea time soon.

This Week (6th July) we are at the Scout hut as normal ( 7:15pm -9pm)
Scouts Next Week ( 13th July) We are meeting at Swadlincote Ski centre, ( snow tubing) at 7:15pm please bring/wear suitable clothing, any additional information about this will appear here. this( 13th ) will be the final meeting before the Summer holiday break.

Next few weeks....

Normal time at 7:15 for the next couple of weeks.
before the end of term, we will be going on a short bike ride, ( details to follow) please make sure that all bikes are in a safe and roadworthy condition ( with working brakes/gears etc) helmets must also be worn.
 anyone turning up on an unsuitable bike, and/or without a helmet will not be allowed to come on the ride.
District Trent Lock weekend: we have 16 Scouts who want to go on this weekend, and combined with all the other Scout troops in the district this weekend is now full, and there are no more places available

Scouts this week..

This week, we are outside, cooking on fires, suitable footwear should be worn. if it is raining please bring waterproofs.

Trent lock forms must be returned to Scouts this week.

 Spring Bank camp at drum hill, forms and letters went out last week, if you havent received them, please see us during Scouts, these need to be filled in and returned preferable on the same night.

Scouts 18 may

On the 18th of may we are going on a walk 7.15 start but we may be later back at 9.30.
Water avtibitirs weekend 15-17 july, so far we have 11 interested, and letters will be going out tonight, if anyone else wants to go get in touch, as everything has to be in by next week.

Scouts May to Summer (spring?)

Last week a letter was sent out, in it the key points are below:
  • Start time – is a little earlier, now 7:15pm  same finishing time.
  • Subs for this term is £25
  • Mobile phones, ipods etc – please don't bring them to Scouts

Also on Saturday the 2nd of July its the return of the Summer sensation ( féte ) at the Scout hut, doors opening from p.m. with a Bar, BBQ, raffle and many other activities and stalls,  and the  Scout section will be running a Bouncy castle, any help on the day would be greatly appreciated as money raised is split between the Section/units that are there on the day, thanks.

Ive also just received information about the Scout District Water activity's camp, at Trent Lock Scout Activity centre,
Located between Castle Donnington and Sawley, the cost for this will be roughly £30 ( this will be confirmed soon)

anything that helps speed this up would be greatly appreciated, forms will also be sent out via e-mail, where possible, but must be returned on paper.

4th of May

Scouts starts back again after the Easter break on the 4th of may, starting slightly earlier from 7:15 finishing around the same time at 9:00pm.

In the meantime for thopse of you out there with an iphone or iPod touch, the Scout Association has just launched its first app, with an Android version coming soon. see video below

St Georges day and beyond



This years St Georges day parade is at Newhall, on Sunday afternoon on the 17th of April, meeting at Newhall Scout HQ at 2pm in Higgins road, parking at Orchard Street at 2pm ( best postcode match: DE11 0JX) We Should be back by 4:15pm picking up from the same location. Full uniform (Scout Shirt, group Neckerchief, Smart Trousers ( School trousers or Scout trousers) and Shoes should be worn.
 see the map below for the location, the Scout hut is located on Higgins Road not  where indicated on the map below, but its easier to park off Orchard Street.




Between Now and Easter we will be meeting at the Scout hut.
6th April - Normal times
8th April ( Friday ) its our group AGM from 8:00 onwards ( more information to follow soon) 
The AGM has been moved to Sunday the 8th of May 
13th April - we may be meeting a little earlier or finishing slightly later - yet to be decided.
17th April ( Sunday) St Georges day - see above.
20th April - Easter holidays - No Scouts
27th April - Easter Holidays - No Scouts
4th May - Scouts resumes after the Easter break for the Summer period ( May - July)

Scouts this week

This Week, we are back again after the half term, if you still have any forms ( personal detail cards) or subs outstanding could you please return them asap, thanks.
 The Following week, (9th March) the Scout programme says pancakes, however, also on this date we will have at least two leaders away.
  With the recent rise in Scout numbers we will be be unable to run this activity without extra help.
 If you are interested and want to join in ( and possibly make a pancake yourself ) Please get in touch, either via e-mail or in person after the next meeting ( or both  ) and I will provide you with more details.
